CBMETER - A NEW DEVICE FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF METABOLIC DISEASES

Develop a novel early-diagnosis methodology and equipment for metabolic diseases, which may represent a new system of disease prevention.

The CBmeter will allow screening of the population for overactivated carotid bodies that malfunction in response to food ingestion, indicating that the person is at risk of developing overweight, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension and type 2 diabetes, at a very low cost compared to other screening methodologies. We are developing a prototype, focused on early detection of a subtle pathophysiological change that is considered to be the trigger for very prevalent metabolic diseases. The prototype of the CBmeter will be used to test the hypothesis that screening of the population for CB overactivation is an innovative system of prevention in health, allowing early educational and clinical intervention in people with positive results in the CBmeter.
